A simple hug that sparked a major misunderstanding and a lesson at work

There are gestures so simple that we never imagine they could lead to misunderstandings. A quick hug, a knowing smile, a reassuring presence in a place often charged with emotion. And yet, it was precisely this small moment of tenderness that unintentionally triggered one of the biggest misunderstandings of my professional life.

Working together, a discreet but precious bond

Working in the same hospital as my father,  Julien , has always been a source of quiet pride for me. He dedicated nearly thirty years to it as a nurse, appreciated for his calm demeanor, his professionalism, and that quiet humor that offered reassurance even in tense situations. For my part, I worked in social services, supporting families through times when everything suddenly seemed overwhelming.

Our schedules rarely crossed. So, when we happened to meet in a corridor, we had this little ritual: a brief hug, nothing demonstrative, just a gesture to say “I’m here”.
